In all honesty, this was the first time I actually attempted to get the video off of the camcorder. I guess I have some work ahead of me for the rest.

Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-30947036466931218212008-07-02T12:41:00.003-05:002008-07-02T13:01:45.826-05:00Baby food... the next superglueOk, so it has been a while... so sue me. Just thought I would type a few words to let y'all know we are still out here. The boys are doing great. They are really starting to become little humans. Yes, for a while, I was starting to think that they were swapped with some sort of alien brood, but now it appears that they really are human... or perhaps they are just learning to act human.

Well, if that were the case, they didn't learn it from me.

Soon we will be visiting the Byers clan in sunny California. There will also be a large representation of the Danish clan as well, which will be their first chance to meet the boys in person. It is my hope they will continue to speak to us after that.Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-45989510909671221262008-02-08T11:38:00.000-06:002008-02-08T12:49:19.227-06:00Would the human race continue if the truth was known?Being a father has brought a lot of things into focus for me. One of the most prominent is the fact that I have been lied to by every parent that I have spoken to.

We have all heard our friends with kids say:

"It is so rewarding to have children. They are truely a blessing"
or
"Kids are great! Sure, they are a lot of work, but it is worth it!"

Now, don't get me wrong, I love my boys, but if I knew then what I know now...

So, I have come to this conclusion:

Parents lie to non-parents

This is not done out of malice, but rather a strange way that we naturally ensure the species continues. If we all knew the truth, I don't think there would be nearly as many teenagers on Montel saying they want babies...

Now some truth-

Babies cry ... a lot. Not just a little whimper, but the kind of cry that makes your ears ring and your neck tighten. The kind that makes you look around for any glass that might break. When being carried, they also tend to point their mouths directly to your ear. I now understand why many parents respond to other babies crying: Post traumatic Stress disorder.

Babies poop ... a lot. This is something I think we all know, but the truth is in the details. It is hard to believe that a purely liquid diet creates such a variety of defecation. Ah, and the smell is delightful. Very quickly new parents become connoisseurs of the myriad of smells a dirty diaper might contain. We will also not hesitate to hold the baby up and take a good long sniff. I am not sure why, because it is usually easy to tell. To make things more surreal, we coo to the babies about how good their poop is.

Spitup. This is something that still surprises me. Why we choose such a benign word as spitup is part of the lie. If we were being honest, we would call it something like forced regurgitation at high speeds. Ok, that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but you get the idea. The babies also plan their attacks. You might think you are in the clear... they have burped, pooped, been changed, etc... but as soon as you are not paying attention BLEAH (that is the sound I feel best describes the action.) Suddenly, you, the couch, the floor, and the baby are covered in what smells like spoiled milk. What is most amazing, is the fact that somehow the bib the baby is wearing usually comes out clean. Go figure.

I don't want to make it sound all bad. There are those moments where you really feel like a parent and love your children more than anything in the world... it just usually happens when they are sleeping.

But, as an expample of contrast, here is a funny video that shows why we lie. This of course, is not one of my boys, but now that I know how to add video, I will post some for your viewing pleasure in the future

Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-58154541192201701402007-12-18T08:32:00.000-06:002007-12-21T10:08:23.049-06:00There will be time to sleep when I am deadAs most of you know, the boys have finally arrived! I apologize, but things have been a bit crazy around here. About a month ago, I found out that my office was closing, which in turn meant I was losing my job. Ever since then I have been frantically searching for a new job and have had quite a few interviews. Needless to say, not very good timing with the fast approaching due date.

Oh yeah!... Before I forget to mention it, we have a scheduled C-section on December 12!

Heidi and I have a history of numerical alliteration (well, thats what I call it). OK OK... really we only have the date of our first date, which was July 7th (07-07.) But if you ask Heidi, my birthday is celebrated year round, so naturally I include that day: August 8th (08-08.) Well, maybe I am the only one celebrating year round, but when you get married, the two become one right?

Hopefully the boys will cooperate and hold out until that date.

Ok, so just a short entry today, but here are some pictures.

Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-79913023832314574962007-10-10T13:55:00.000-05:002007-10-10T14:17:39.476-05:00Don't make me stop this womb and come back there!Well, the boys were not very cooperative on Saturday during the 3-D Sonogram. If their behavior in the womb is any indications of how they will be, Heidi and I may be in trouble.

Here are the basics of what we saw on Saturday:

Baby "A"

Apparently this little guy is getting all the caffeine that Heidi has stored in her body. At times, he was wiggling around as if he had some place to go. Also, it would seem that he has found some of his body parts... we noticed him sucking on his foot for a short time.

I don't think I was ever that limber.

Between all the movement and body parts in the way, he was pretty much saying:

"Oh, so you want to take my picture... go ahead, make my day."

Baby "B"

He is the shy one. Much quieter in comparison to "A". In fact, I think the only reason he was moving was to steer clear of his brother. With all those limbs flying around, he most likely has learned to dodge and weave accordingly. During the 45 minute session, he kept his arm up in front of his face. It almost seemed like he was trying to keep the paparazzi at bay.

So, we will have to do it all again. Maybe I will give Heidi a shot of Jack Daniels to slow things down in there... well, maybe not. We all know how I turned out (OK, it wasn't Jack Daniels for me... probably akvavit.)

I will update as soon as we get some good pictures or if I just feel like venting.Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-34641936000435583652007-09-24T09:59:00.000-05:002007-09-24T10:34:27.491-05:00Get in my belly!I thought I could get by with the picture of Heidi and the van... but No... the peasants have revolted and the walls have been breached. Heidi doesn't mean to look down upon all of you *cough* sedans and *gasp* coupes. She doesn't believe she is better or superior. Yes, the time had to come sooner or later that Heidi and I would join the ranks of minivan owners. It just turned out that with two little devils on the way, our hand was forced. I guess I can give up my dream of a suburban assault vehicle. Maybe we can install a cannon that fires soccer balls? or at the very least, fires insults to the other drivers. I just don't think the technology is there yet.

I will have to rack that up in the failed promises list... We were, after all, supposed to all have flying cars by now. Sure, with enough speed and the right hill my car flies, but it is just not the same.

I will post some pictures of the van as well as some new sonogram pictures next week. We have yet another Dr. appt on Monday, so hopefully can get some good pictures. Until then, I leave you with this thought from Jack HandeyBenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-53902847144260855582007-08-15T12:11:00.000-05:002007-08-15T12:27:50.741-05:00The kids are already fighting...Well, we have new sonogram pictures. The doctor referred to the boys position as "bunk beds". When I asked if that was the technical term, they gave me an odd look. No one gets my humor.

The funny thing about this visit was the position of their feet. The little guy on the bottom was getting kicked in the head by the brother above, however he was also dishing it out from below. We might be in for quite the pair of hell raisers.

And before you start complaining that these are only pictures of "Baby A", cut me some slack. I would challenge any of you to tell the difference between the pictures. It just happened that "Mr. A" was being a bit more photogenic this time. The only other picture of "Mr. B" that I contemplated adding was a picture of his privates... and I didn't think this was the most appropriate place for that!

Waving or giving the finger?

Recovering from the last kick in the head.

Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-50819932679374883652007-08-15T12:04:00.000-05:002007-08-15T12:10:39.082-05:00Future Mom of the year
As promised, here she is in all her glory... and this at only 20 weeks. All is well. The heartbeats are normal and Heidi is doing great. She is really starting to show now! I tried to warn her that the Byers boys are going to be BIG... and I think she is starting to believe.

They are moving a lot now, but still too small for me to feel them. Soon, however, it will be like a scene from the movies "Alien", but hopefully without the jumping out the chest part. That would be messy.

All in all, everything else is good.Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519138958294094971.post-52456659249731242142007-08-01T08:36:00.001-05:002007-08-06T11:58:19.628-05:00Two boys... the world will never be safe againYes, it is true. Heidi and I hit the jackpot! We are pleased to announce that there are two new Byers men in the making. Some might say that this is a sign of the apocalypse, and if they inherit my knack for keeping the house in dissorder, I would tend to agree. All kidding aside, we are both ecstatic about it. I would be remiss not to mention that as soon as we left the doctors office with the good news, Heidi was already talking about trying for a girl.

I should probably buy stock in the company that makes Tylenol.

As you can see, I have updated the blog with the newest ultrasound. For those not familiar with ink blot tests...

Top picture: To the right you can see the head and near the center is his little arm/hand

Bottom picture: Center is the head and I personally think that above the head is his brothers foot... but I could be wrong on that one. (I like to think that they are getting all of the fighting out of their systems in the womb.)

Also of note, they both seem to have my ever growing belly! I hope that you will enjoy this blog. I will definitely try to update as much as possible. As you know, things are very busy in the Byers house these days. Work for both of us is crazy and on top of that, we are trying to get the house in order for our new arrivals.

I know you all were very surprised to hear of our pregnancy, let alone that there are twins on the way. Heidi and I are still getting over the shock. The panic attacks have subsided a bit and now we are working as a well oiled machine getting all our ducks in a row. More to come in the future... as for me now, I need to get back to work!

Benhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02641851371683028980noreply@blogger.com2
