There will be time to sleep when I am dead

As most of you know, the boys have finally arrived! Heidi and I are getting adjusted to our new bundles of joy, and our new sleeping schedule.

Connor was born first at 7:45 AM on December 5th, weighing a stout 7 lbs, 2 oz.

Just two minutes later, Jacob entered this world. Don't let his size fool you, he is a feisty little guy. He weighed 4 lbs, 12 oz.

And a picture of Mom and babies...

And finally, a picture of the soon to be Mom the night before the birth...

Thank you all for your well wishes. We are extremely happy and look forward to this next chapter in our lives.

cha cha cha changes

OK, so I have really dropped the ball on updating the blog. I apologize, but things have been a bit crazy around here. About a month ago, I found out that my office was closing, which in turn meant I was losing my job. Ever since then I have been frantically searching for a new job and have had quite a few interviews. Needless to say, not very good timing with the fast approaching due date.

Oh yeah!... Before I forget to mention it, we have a scheduled C-section on December 12!

Heidi and I have a history of numerical alliteration (well, thats what I call it). OK OK... really we only have the date of our first date, which was July 7th (07-07.) But if you ask Heidi, my birthday is celebrated year round, so naturally I include that day: August 8th (08-08.) Well, maybe I am the only one celebrating year round, but when you get married, the two become one right?

Hopefully the boys will cooperate and hold out until that date.

Ok, so just a short entry today, but here are some pictures.

Don't make me stop this womb and come back there!

Well, the boys were not very cooperative on Saturday during the 3-D Sonogram. If their behavior in the womb is any indications of how they will be, Heidi and I may be in trouble.

Here are the basics of what we saw on Saturday:

Baby "A"

Apparently this little guy is getting all the caffeine that Heidi has stored in her body. At times, he was wiggling around as if he had some place to go. Also, it would seem that he has found some of his body parts... we noticed him sucking on his foot for a short time.

I don't think I was ever that limber.

Between all the movement and body parts in the way, he was pretty much saying:

"Oh, so you want to take my picture... go ahead, make my day."

Baby "B"

He is the shy one. Much quieter in comparison to "A". In fact, I think the only reason he was moving was to steer clear of his brother. With all those limbs flying around, he most likely has learned to dodge and weave accordingly. During the 45 minute session, he kept his arm up in front of his face. It almost seemed like he was trying to keep the paparazzi at bay.

So, we will have to do it all again. Maybe I will give Heidi a shot of Jack Daniels to slow things down in there... well, maybe not. We all know how I turned out (OK, it wasn't Jack Daniels for me... probably akvavit.)

I will update as soon as we get some good pictures or if I just feel like venting.

Get in my belly!

I thought I could get by with the picture of Heidi and the van... but No... the peasants have revolted and the walls have been breached. In response to the demands, I will release our prisoners and post a new picture of the mom-to-be. Enjoy!

New Sonograms

Here are the most recent pictures of the boys. Unfortunately, as they are getting bigger (which really isn't unfortunate, unless you ask Heidi) they are getting a lot harder give us clear pictures.

Good news for y'all though, Heidi and I have an appointment set for a 3D ultrasound, so we should be able to get a real good look at the boys. Until then, I hope this placates the masses. I should also be getting a video during that session... so if I can find a way to add that as well, I will do so.

The van arriveth

Ok, ok, I know I haven't posted in a while, and for that I am sorry. But, I come bearing gifts! Gifts in the form of pictures, which probably isn't much of a gift. It is better than one of those T-shirts that say "He didn't blog in over a week, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

Ok, maybe that would have been better.

I give to you.... The VAN!

Yes, commuters beware. Heidi doesn't mean to look down upon all of you *cough* sedans and *gasp* coupes. She doesn't believe she is better or superior. It is merely the thrill of the V6 engine and the stylish lines of the spoiler that could make anyone feel "bad to the bone"... If you meet her at a stop light and she begins to put on her leather gloves, you are in for a treat. Prepare to eat diaper dragster dust (which, now that it is in writing, sounds kinda gross).

In all seriousness, we are both very pleased with the van. It has more buttons and gizmo's that even I know what to do with. This is actually one vehicle where I have read the manual. Sure, I wont read the manual on our hedge trimmer (if I had, I would have seen the part about not using too close to the power cable ---- oops), but the vans' I read. Go figure.

I wont bore you with the details, but even a couple of my "anti-minivan" friends have been impressed with some of the features. I will say this... it has a laser. What is cooler than a frigging laser attached to a frigging minivan?

"Grocery getter", "Soccer Mom Mobile"...

Call it what you will, we are now proud owners of a Minivan. Yes, the time had to come sooner or later that Heidi and I would join the ranks of minivan owners. It just turned out that with two little devils on the way, our hand was forced. I guess I can give up my dream of a suburban assault vehicle. Maybe we can install a cannon that fires soccer balls? or at the very least, fires insults to the other drivers. I just don't think the technology is there yet.

I will have to rack that up in the failed promises list... We were, after all, supposed to all have flying cars by now. Sure, with enough speed and the right hill my car flies, but it is just not the same.

I will post some pictures of the van as well as some new sonogram pictures next week. We have yet another Dr. appt on Monday, so hopefully can get some good pictures. Until then, I leave you with this thought from Jack Handey

The kids are already fighting...

Well, we have new sonogram pictures. The doctor referred to the boys position as "bunk beds". When I asked if that was the technical term, they gave me an odd look. No one gets my humor.

The funny thing about this visit was the position of their feet. The little guy on the bottom was getting kicked in the head by the brother above, however he was also dishing it out from below. We might be in for quite the pair of hell raisers.

And before you start complaining that these are only pictures of "Baby A", cut me some slack. I would challenge any of you to tell the difference between the pictures. It just happened that "Mr. A" was being a bit more photogenic this time. The only other picture of "Mr. B" that I contemplated adding was a picture of his privates... and I didn't think this was the most appropriate place for that!

Waving or giving the finger?

Recovering from the last kick in the head.

Future Mom of the year

As promised, here she is in all her glory... and this at only 20 weeks. I still can't believe that there are two "mini me's" in there!

Also, Millie and Rocky wanted to be seen by the world, so they make an appearance in this photo.

Poll's Up (the crowd cheers)

Ok, as you can see, the poll is up. I know, I know... not exactly worth the wait, but at least now I can come up with more clever idea's for future polls. New pictures will be posted tomorrow of the boys (and even a picture taken of the Mom-to-be!)

#()@&$!%$$ Poll...

Well, I have been beating my head against the wall, trying to get that poll up and running, but it is not cooperating. Doesn't it know who it is dealing with?!?! Hopefully I will get this up and running today. Patience grasshoppers... grab the pebble from my hand.

Dr. Visit

Yesterday, Heidi and I had an appointment with our OB. All is well. The heartbeats are normal and Heidi is doing great. She is really starting to show now! I tried to warn her that the Byers boys are going to be BIG... and I think she is starting to believe.

They are moving a lot now, but still too small for me to feel them. Soon, however, it will be like a scene from the movies "Alien", but hopefully without the jumping out the chest part. That would be messy.

All in all, everything else is good.

Two boys... the world will never be safe again

Yes, it is true. Heidi and I hit the jackpot! We are pleased to announce that there are two new Byers men in the making. Some might say that this is a sign of the apocalypse, and if they inherit my knack for keeping the house in dissorder, I would tend to agree. All kidding aside, we are both ecstatic about it. I would be remiss not to mention that as soon as we left the doctors office with the good news, Heidi was already talking about trying for a girl.

I should probably buy stock in the company that makes Tylenol.

As you can see, I have updated the blog with the newest ultrasound. For those not familiar with ink blot tests...

Top picture: To the right you can see the head and near the center is his little arm/hand

Bottom picture: Center is the head and I personally think that above the head is his brothers foot... but I could be wrong on that one. (I like to think that they are getting all of the fighting out of their systems in the womb.)

  • Also of note, they both seem to have my ever growing belly! (Is it considered sympathy weight when it started before we got pregnant?)

Hope all is well with everyone and I will try and keep you posted to any new developments

First post

Hello all! I hope that you will enjoy this blog. I will definitely try to update as much as possible. As you know, things are very busy in the Byers house these days. Work for both of us is crazy and on top of that, we are trying to get the house in order for our new arrivals.

I know you all were very surprised to hear of our pregnancy, let alone that there are twins on the way. Heidi and I are still getting over the shock. The panic attacks have subsided a bit and now we are working as a well oiled machine getting all our ducks in a row. More to come in the future... as for me now, I need to get back to work!
